Welcome to the New Year! It is also the first 2nd Wednesday of 2024, when my formidable co-host Caren Robinson joins us. As many could help but notice around the holidays, our platform Blog Talk Radio went (as the military sometimes says) “Tango Uniform”. We’re sorry for that, because holidays can be joyful, but they can also be a time of isolation. We’re in the advocacy business, so we were angry and saddened we couldn’t be there for one another. Thankfully the calendar has changed, and we’re back to spread hope in the new year.

This leads in to the topic of our show tonight – TIME – Looked at by a number of vantage points. One in that BOTH Caren & I are upon anniversaries of our original (diagnosed) Brain Injuries. Those were not only game changers, but time changers as well.

Radiation From Cells Can Damage Our Brain – February 2024 with Caren Robinson and Kim Justus

Happy Valentine’s Day – Spread the Love! Last weeks show with Dr. Maria was on building quality relationships, so this week Caren and I are spreading the word on damage our cell phones can be inflicting on us.

When I read the first article in “The Hill” .. It smacked of the NFL scandal. Studies on the harmful effects of repeated concussions had been around for decades, then buried. AFTER much damage has been done, the truth surfaced. Why had it been buried? The results gave an unfavorable account of the magnitude of the damage possible incurring multiple or just the right blow to the head. Money, power, greed trumps health and safety. Sound familiar? Certainly not the first or last time, or scenerio.

The National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has quietly disclosed that it will stop studying the biological or environmental impacts of cell phone radiofrequency radiation. Don’t rush to upgrade, that’s a marketing cue. Read the small print, or call and ask the provider as I did. Radiofrequency (RF) and Electromagnetic Frequency (EMF) may literally change our DNA structure or cause Cancer, among other things. As we get bigger and stronger cells, the towers to power them – coupled with the other sources that provide them in concert, WHY would studies cease?

Ignorance Is Not Bliss – June 2024 with Caren Robinson and Kim Justus

Ignorance causes misdiagnosis and therefore ineffective (or no) treatment for children with Brain Injury – Particularly ones with less obvious “tells”. Professionals, parents, educators, and others are not familiar with common symptoms that point to BI. As a result, too many kids are thrust into a life of systems that “house” them, but seldom have time, knowledge or resources to adequately treat them. In turn, a dysfunctional circle forms, robbing these children the quality of life and independence they may have achieved. These patterns as so many fall through the cracks, follows them into adulthood.

Profiling becomes an issue based on ability level both outside and inside the brain injury community. Needs-based services, advocacy groups, and others are more sympathetic to those obviously impaired. The others, deal not only with their injury but proving themselves – Even if they don’t recognize the issue themselves. Many are labeled as mentally ill, bad kids, yet another case of ADHD and not identified by the root cause of brain injury.

Emergency Preparedness – September 2024 with Caren Robinson and Kim Justus

We will be discussing how to prepare for an emergency before it happens. Recently the Midwest had a rare type of storm that left more residents out of power, than ever in the history of the area. Just afterward the Atlantic Coast was beaten with Hurricane Debby, and the next week Caifornia had earthquakes! No matter what time of year, or what what type of emergency – Be it from Mother Nature or other causes, it’s random, scary and dangerous. People are put in positions of injury or even death.

How can we minimize our chances of the worst outcomes? Let’s talk about it and feel free to share your ideas.

The Brain-Gut Connection – October 2024 with Caren Robinson and Kim Justus

Most of you have probably heard the term “Leaky Gut” syndrome, but don’t fully understand the mechanics. The brain-gut connection, also known as the gut-brain axis, is a two-way communication system between the brain and the digestive system. It’s a complex network of nerves and signals that allows the brain and gut to work together to keep the digestive system functioning properly. Why is this important? How can you determine when your brain-gut connection isn’t working correctly, and what are the possible consequences? What can you do to help facilitate that crucial balance again? Know your labels!! Join us as we discuss shopping for better health – The quality of the food chain has slid to what can be detrimental for optimal health. The spotlight is starting to shine on what to look for to enable our food to be medicine, not poison. With obesity at near half the population from children on up, it’s time to recognize over-eating isn’t always the culprit. It doesn’t help, but much of it is chicken and egg theory. No pun intended. The problem may well stem from ingredients we aren’t even aware are in our food. Big business, with some big consequences. We will also include liquid foods, and enteral feeding.
